Shopping hours in Italy are typical of the countries that surround the Mediteranean Sea.  The work day is divided into two parts, morning and mid-afternoon/early evening.  The time between the two work and shopping periods is set aside for the mid-day meal and perhaps a little nap.

It is a good idea to plan your travels throughout Tuscany keeping in mind the Italian pace of life.  Generally, from Monday to Friday shops open around 9:00 to 10:00 am and close about 12:30 to 1:00 pm.  The shops then reopen aorund 2:30 to 3:00 pm and remain open until 6:00 to 7:00 pm.  However, the opening and closing hours are not uniform.

Fortunately, when the shops are closed you will be able to take a break from searching for that special Italian treasure.  Almost all Tuscan restaurants are open from Noon to 3:00 pm.  This is your opportunity to get on the Italian schedule and enjoy a leisurely Tuscan meal accompanied by your favorite wine.

Shops generally are open on Saturdays, some all day and some only in the mornings.  This you will have to check out.  In the larger cities, they will usually be open all day Saturday.

Sunday is different.  Most shops in small towns, except those catering to tourists, will be closed all day.  Grocery stores also are closed on Sunday, so remmeber to purchase foods for a Sunday meal on Saturday.
